Design Statement
Welcome to Kindergarten is a devised new work music/dance piece that explores the emotional journey of the creative process through the children’s toys Froebel’s gifts. There is a movement of music for each gift, in which a dancer learns a step in creating for the first time. The lighting supported this process by individualizing each movement, and provided and interactive tool for the dancers to react and discover with. Color, shape, intensity, and location played big rolls. The lighting for the final number of the show included many visual call backs to each of the previous movements.
