Design Statement
Our Oz is a show that follows Dorothy's travels through the Land of Oz as she is in search of what really makes a place feel like home. Along the way the show explores building community, how deeply held insecurities impact yourself and others, and how quickly power/fascism corrupts. The lighting will support the exploration of these themes by visually establishing the Land of Oz as a parallel to our reality and in aiding the depiction of travel throughout Oz. Each location is visually distinct from one another, and mixes futuristic and modern lighting motifs. Meshing bright colors, various textures, and realistic angles of light to create a world that feels familiar and relatable, but leaves room for unrealistic lighting conventions. Additionally, within the stage deck there are two lines of LED neon tape. The tape will change color based on the location. The only time the are yellow is during the yellow brick road travel sequences.
