Design Statement
For the Love Of is a play about finding connection and meaning in an ever-changing world. It explores how to build and maintain a queer community that provides purpose and belonging. The lighting design supports this exploration by creating a visual world that meshes the literal and emotional experiences of the play. A specific color palette allows the lighting to communicate time of day, while heightening the emotions of each scene. A few different textures and angles of light aid in creating many different unique locations. Together they craft a visually cohesive world that ebbs and flows in vibrancy, visualizing the intense joy, sadness, and passion this show explores.
